THIS MUM CAN!

One of the biggest hurdles that women, who are also mothers, can face in achieving their goals and ambitions is the juggling the rest of life at the same time. I hear so many women struggling because they feel pulled in numerous directions, and that their ambitions always seem to fall to the bottom of the pile and become lost under the mountain of responsibilities and general motherload.

When you are living a life that feels like time is a precious commodity, with limited energy and capacity, it is hard to prioritise your own dreams and hopes at the end of a long day. But it is possible to create a healthy vision for yourself and your family.

Before sitting down and getting specific about the goals you have and the steps you need to take, I urge you to take some time and consider the following questions.

What is this goal really about for you? Why is it so important to you? What will it give you when you have achieved it? How does it fit with your overall aspirations for life? Often you can focus on the goal on its own, without considering it in the bigger picture. When you connect it to the rest of your outlook on life, it starts to take on a greater importance and value. This will help it remain a priority when life becomes hectic.

What else is happening in your life right now, and in the imminent future, that will have an impact on your ability to focus on this goal? Consider all the other areas of your life (e.g. work, home, relationships, family, community, finances, health) and how they may limit your resources or time?  If you have big events coming up, or a major DIY project, or a particularly stressful work time coming up, you need to adapt your expectations of yourself and your goals. It is far more important to plan realistically that it may take you 12 months to achieve something, and stick to it, than say 3 months and fail at the end of 1 month.
