Research shows that reading to children can have a huge impact on their lives, mentally, sociologically and educationally. In spite of this, a recent poll of parents of 4-11 year olds revealed that half confess to either frequently skipping pages when reading with children, or finishing reading the story before the end.
Making time to read is so important, and to celebrate the joys and benefits of sharing books, stories and rhymes, Booktrust will be hosting this year’s
National Bookstart Week from 4th-10th June. The theme is Bookstart Bird Boogie, with TV presenter and first-time father Ore Oduba presenting a lively and fun reading of Lucy Cousins' A Busy Day for Birds, published by Walker Books.
