The midwife that is present during your labour and birth is a very important person indeed. Whether they are there by selection (in the case of Private Midwives) or chance, they have the unique ability to influence your birth experience when all other factors are out of your control. We might not be prepared for the curve balls that labour throws at us, but how we respond and cope on the day, and how we reflect on the experience afterwards, has much to do with the level of care and support we receive from these one or two individuals.
Have you got a 'couldn't have done it without them' story to tell?
